Classmate は同級生/同じクラスの子のこと。
例えば:

Someone who is in your class is known as a 'classmate'.
Eg 'John is my classmate at school.'
However as 'mate' means 'friend' then if you are not actually friendly with someone in your class, you may prefer another description (without the word 'mate' such as 'a fellow student in my class' - although this is a purely personal distinction.
