I calculate the rate of returned goods by dividing the annual estimate of the amount of returned goods by annual sales.
Dividing the yearly estimate of the total cost of all goods returned by annual sales gives me the rate of returned goods.
「割る」は「divide」で、「A を B で割る」は「divide A by B」と言います。
「額」はこの場合では「amount (of money)」ですが、「売上額」は「amount of sales」ではなく「sales」だけにして、気づいたでしょうか。ビジネスはよくこの「sales」の使い方にして、「sales amount」というと、冗長だという感じがします。
