fall asleep で「寝入る」 doze off で「うたた寝する」 「電話を握ったまま」は with my phone in my hand と言えます。 「メールのやり取り中に」は while I was emailing somebody while emailing a friend back and forth ご参考になれば幸いです!

  • I fell asleep while in the middle of sending a text.

  • I fell asleep when I was talking on the phone last night!

If you are using your phone and you happen to fall asleep then I would use one of the above to explain it. More examples: I fell asleep while texting Mark last night. I was in the middle of emailing you back and I fell asleep! Sorry, I was going to reply to your text but I fell asleep.
I fell asleep while texting Mark last night. I was in the middle of emailing you back and I fell asleep! Sorry, I was going to reply to your text but I fell asleep.

  • I fell asleep while texting someone!

"Falling asleep" isn't always voluntary so it's the best phrase to describe this situation. You can replace "someone" with the name of the person whom you were writing to. You can also replace "texting" with "emailing" if you were writing an email. I hope that this helps :)

  • I dropped off, phone in hand

To drop off is an alternative way to say that you fell asleep unintentionally. If you have a phone in your hand, there is an assumption that the phone belongs to you. In the example sentence, it will be assumed that the phone is yours (or the ownership of the phone is unimportant).

  • I crashed in the middle of our text conversation

    play icon

"Crashing" is American slang for falling asleep because of being really tired. One can crash under any circumstance (whether he/she is in the middle of texting/emailing or not). Typically, emails don't require an immediate response, whereas texting or chatting does. Hence, it's no big problem for English speakers if one crashes while in the middle of composing an email. However, if you're texting or chatting with your friend via your cellphone or some mobile application, and all of a sudden you realize that you fell asleep in the middle of the conversation, then you can apologize to your friend saying: "Sorry, but I crashed in the middle of our conversation."
"Sorry, but I crashed in the middle of our conversation."

I fell asleep with my phone in my hand. I fell asleep and when I woke up, it was already morning.

  • I nodded off while texting on my phone .

  • I passed out in the middle texting last night.

    play icon

To nod off or pass out are two common phrasal verbs to explain that you fell asleep. They are both perfect for describing humorous situations when someone falls asleep in the middle of doing something or participating in an activity. E.g, My friend nodded off during the lecture today ; I passed out watching TV last night.
My friend nodded off during the lecture today. I passed out watching TV last night.

When talking about falling asleep then as well as saying 'fall asleep' we also can use the term 'doze off' by adding 'with my phone in my hand' and 'while texting' then these explain what you were doing ,
'with my phone in my hand'(電話を握ったまま)と 'while texting'(メールのやりとりをしている時)はその時に何をしていたのかを伝えます。
