「To tell the truth」。。これが本音を言うとの英訳です。
質問者様の場合ですと、次のような文書にできます：
「Of course, I want my teacher to get more popular, but to tell the truth, I hope he/she doesn't because it'll be harder to reserve him/her」
My teacher is amazing, so I want everybody to take his/her class, but to be honest, I’m not willing to recommend them his/her class because it might be difficult to make a reservation for his/her class if I do that.

recommendは推薦するという意味です。
AをBに推薦するという場合には、
recommend A to Bと使います。
