拡張子って英語でなんて言うの？

　「拡張子」は英語で extension や file extension と言います。

　A file extension is a group of letters that is put at the end of a file name to show what software can open it.

　「拡張子はどのソフトで開けられるファイルなのかを示す、ファイル名の最後に置かれているひとまとまりの文字列です」

拡張子はファイルの名前の末尾につけられる文字列＝A file extension is a string of letters attached to the end of a file name.
拡張子はIT関係の隠語ですから気を付けてください。

「拡張子」は英語で「(filename) extension」と言います。「.jpg」（画像）や「.html」（ウエブサイト）という拡張子もありましてよく見かける他は「.gif」（動いている画像）や「.mp3」（音楽）ですね。拡張子を英語で言う時は場合によって変わりますが発音は「gif」（ギッフ）、「jaypeg」（ジェイペッグ）で「H T M L」（エイチティーエムエル）と「M P three」（エムピースリー）という二つのパターンです。

データあまり使わないからジェイペッグっていう拡張子を使ってください。

1. Filename extension
   ファイルの種類を識別するためにファイルの名前（ファイル名）の末尾につけられる文字列の「拡張子」のことを「(a) filename extension」と言います。

2. file extension
   「.TXT という拡張子」というふうにファイルの種類を話しているときは、「a .TXT file extension」とよく言います。
