距離の間であれば space と言います。例えば「ビルとビルの間」（the space between the buildings）です。
時間の間は span と言います。例えば「数ヶ月の間」は the span of a few months になります。
また、時間に関しては「間が空いた」時に blank spaceと言います。例えば There's a blank space of about 30 minutes between the movies（映画の上映の間に30分ぐらいの空きがあります）です。

「彼と数ヶ月の間連絡が取れなかった。」
「人と連絡が取れなかった」は haven't been able to get hold of 人
「数ヶ月の間」は for the last few months
この場合の「間」は for が使えます。
2) There's 20 cm between the bottom of my bed and the floor.
「ベッドの下と床の間は２０cmです。」
「ベッドの下と床の間」は between the bottom of my bed and the floor
この場合の「間」は between が使えます。
