の使い分けについても教えていただけるとありがたいです。子供がスマホを1台ずつ持っている場合は、children with a smart phoneで大丈夫でしょうか？それとも1台のスマホを共有しているという意味にとれてしまうでしょうか？
Each of the children had their (own) smart phones.
A lot of the children had smart phones / a smart phone.
1) すべての子供が１台ずつスマホを持っている場合です。
Each of the children had their (own) smart phones.
「それぞれの子供が自分のスマホを持っていた。」
2) 子供の多くがスマホを持っている場合で、全員ではありません。
A lot of the children had smart phones / a smart phone.
「多くの子供がスマホを持っていた。」
この場合は smart phones と言っても良いですし、 a smart phone と言うこともできます。（一人の子供が一台のスマホしか持っていない場合ですが。）
