What are you up to?

  • Are you busy at the moment?

"What are you up to right now?" - This is a casual way of asking what someone is doing, and it can be sued both inside and outside of work situations. "Are you busy at the moment?" - This is a more polite way of asking if someone is currently occupied with something else, and normally has a sense of urgency behind it. People normally will ask the person a personal question for advice, or pull the person away to ask them something in private that they want to address.
"What are you up to right now?"(今何をしているんですか) - これは今何をしているのかを尋ねるカジュアルな表現です。 "Are you busy at the moment?"(今忙しいですか) - これは今忙しいかどうか尋ねる丁寧な言い方で、普通切迫したニュアンスがあります。

  • Which tasks are you busy with at the moment?

  • Are you busy with (??? project) right now?

    play icon

  • Please can you let me know what your task/project list is at the moment.

    play icon

Using 'which' instead of 'what' is less demanding tone. #2 is a deflective way of asking - by asking about another task, it gives them the opportunity saying which task they are actually working on. "can you let me know" is less demanding request.
"can you let me know" はより控えめなお願いです。

  • What are you up to this week?

If you want to ask what kind of work a person is doing "at the moment", add additional information like "week" "moment" "day". "What are you up to this week" is a more casual way of saying this. "What work/project are you working on" is less casual but the listener would know what you are asking in both cases.
"What are you up to this week?"(今週は何をしているの)はカジュアルな言い方です。 "What work/project are you working on?"(何の仕事をしているの)はよりフォーマルですが、どちらの言い方でも言いたいことは伝わります。

  • What do you currently work as?

  • How do you spend your time these days?

    play icon

The word currently refers to the present time, what they are doing right now not previously or hoping to do. Asking how they spend their day is a more subtle way of saying do you go to work?

If you want to know what someone is doing at this present time then you would say 'at the moment' When doing work you can say 'work', 'tasks' or 'projects' the person would know what you mean

  • What are you involved with right now?

    play icon

This is a sophisticated way of asking someone what they are doing. It is a very broad way of asking a question, as a person can be "involved" with one or many aspects of their job, but they can also be involved with other things outside of work. Someone could be involved on the telephone or involved doing some analysis or sometimes we refer to a romantic relationship as one person being involved with another.
