〜の様子が描かれているって英語でなんて言うの？

「様子」は英語で「appearance」ですけど、美術や写真術について話しなら、「the image of」や「a representation of」とか使います。 普通に「XXが描かれている」は英語で「XX is drawn/has been drawn」または「X is painted/has been painted」です。しかし、こういう時、「to be depicted」をよくつかっています。 「この絵は中世ヨーロッパの生活の様子が描かれている」 A scene representing everyday life in medieval Europe is depicted in this painting.

“portray” も “depict” も「描かれる」の意味です。例えば “This picture depicts daily life in medieval Europe.” （この写真は中世ヨーロッパの生活の様子が描かれている） “portray” は「演じる」の意味もあります。例えば “My favorite actor portrays the villain in latest Disney movie.” （私の一番好きな俳優が一番最近のディズニー映画で悪役を演じています。）
