保護って英語でなんて言うの？

「保護」という言葉を英訳すると　「care for」または　「protect」になります。雨の中にいた捨て犬を保護し、一緒に暮らしていくというストーリーについて話せば、「I read a story about someone who cared for a stray dog that they found in the rain. After that, they lived together. 」と言っても良いと考えました。
