収集って英語でなんて言うの？

何かを集める時は「Gather」を使います。
例えば、データを収集するなら「Gather data」。
しかし、ゴミを集める時は「Collect rubbish」と言います。理由は分かりません。

もしかしたら Gather はポジティブで、 Collect はネガティブなのかもしれないですね。

収集は英語で collection 又は gathering と言います。

例えばデータだったら data collection 又は data gathering と言えます。

ゴミ収集は garbage/trash collection と言います。garbage/trash gathering は文法的には問題ないですが、ちょっと違和感がします。garbage/trash collection の方が普通です。

garbageをいうかtrashをいうかは地域によると思います。ちなみに、イギリスでしたら rubbish と言います。

"gathering" ←何かを使うために集める意味合いがあります。例えば、"garbage gathering"はあんまり聞いたことがないですが、"information gathering"はよく言われています。動詞は"to gather"です。

"collection" ←集めた後で使えるかどうか関係ない気がします。"garbage collection"も"information collection"も言えます。動詞は"to collect"です。　

"collecting" ←これは"to collect"の動名詞ですが、"collection"と意味が同じです。

「ごみ収集は何日ですか？」の例文：
・"What is the garbage collection date?"

・"What date is garbage collected on?"

「グーグルは沢山人々の個人情報を収集しますね。」の例文：
・"Google gathers a lot of people's personal data."

・"Google collects a lot of personal information from people."

・"Google does a lot of data collection of personal information."

1.) collection (収集)　「収集」は英語でcollectionと訳せます。「収集する」は英語でto collectと訳せます。
例えば、
data collection (データ収集)

information collection (情報収集)

garbage collection (ごみ収集)

「収集」は collection もしくは gathering と言います。

データ収集： data gathering
情報収集： information gathering
ゴミ収集： garbage collection

と表現することが多いです。
gathering は何か目的がある場合に使われることが多いですが、そこまで明確な区別があるわけではありません。また人が集まる場合にもよく使われます。

またそれぞれの動詞 collect と gather を使っても表せます。
例文
Days and Rules for trash collection are varied depending on your locations
「ゴミ収集の曜日やルールは場所によって異なる」

As I have a presentation tomorrow, I will have to collect and gather all data in a day.
「明日私はプレゼンをするので、今日中に全てのデータを収集しなければならない」

他の回答の通り、収集はcollectionと言いますが、しろ様の質問の例の「データ収集」ならちょっと違う単語を使った方がいいです。データやパソコンの話なら、収集は「bank」になります。collectionも使えますがbankの方がナチュラルな言い方です。

データ収集：data bank, bank of data
ごみ収集：trash collection, garbage collection

Accumulation は名詞です。
To accumulate は動詞です。

累積というを表しています。

例:
