場合によって違いますが「そんな中で」は基本的に 'out of all ~' と言います。
挙げた例文をそれを使って訳してみましょう：

もうひとつの例文では時間の話ですから上記の訳語は使えません。その場合は 'in that time' 「その時の中で」というパターンを使います。

during も使えます。「（名詞）の[間](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/52376/)」と言う意味です。
「その時の間に」= 「そんな中で」
