Also, it's important to make sure that the person you are speaking to know's that they need to repeat themselves, simply by saying, could you say that again or could you repeat what you said please

on a piece of paper or in a notebook. Another way of expressing
this is to say, "Please put pen to paper."

Sorry, I can't understand what you are saying, could you write it down for me please?
When something is written down, generally it is easier to understand, because you have more time to process and figure out what that person is trying to express. When people are speaking it is faster and sometimes it can be difficult to catch what they are saying.
Write = pen & paper
Type = on a computer / tablet / smartphone
"Can you write/type that down for me, please?" - This is a great polite question & the person you say this to, whether it be a teacher, doctor, etc, should be more than happy to help.
"I couldn't quite catch that, could you type it?" - This is a present question & you can use it as the conversation is progressing.
"Can you put that in writing/typing for me? " - An old formal question, especially used when you require due diligence. As in; A: "The quote is $1500." B:"Can you put that in writing for me, please? Also, can you list all of the steps involved?"
Sorry, I didn't understand. Can you write it down?
Sorry, I didn't catch that. Can you write it down?
The first thing to notice is that in the first two example sentences, we can either use the the auxiliary/modal verb, "can't," or, "didn't," with the verb, "understand." However we can also use the verb, "to catch," to mean the same thing but we can only use the modal, "didn't," with it.
When you do not understand what someone is saying, it can often be embarrassing to asking them to keep repeating themselves. You can simply ask them to write it down for you so that you can read and understand it.
- I did not quite her what you said, could you write it down please.
- I do not understand, please write it down for me.
