動詞affordは「経済的な余裕がある」という意味です。
例えば、
I can't afford to buy a car now.
（車を買うお金がない。）
I can't afford a trip.
（旅行に行くお金がない。）
のように不定詞を使ったり、名詞を直接目的語として使う用法があります。
日本語の感覚になじまない文かも知れませんね。
さて、ご質問の件ですが、例えば
I'm afraid I can't afford it now, because my sister is getting married and I'm going to her ceremony. I need to spend some money, you know.
（お金の余裕がなくてね。というのも、妹が結婚するんで式に行く予定があるし。ほら、お金使うからさ、ね。）
こんな感じで言えば伝えればよいと思います。can't afford自体には会社の倒産や貧困のような意味合いはないので、「今は無理」というような場合には便利なフレーズだと思います。

My little sister is getting married soon and I'll need a lot of money for that, so there's no way I can go on vacation anywhere right now.
この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。
ーMy little sister is getting married soon and I'll need a lot of money for that, so there's no way I can go on vacation anywhere right now.
「妹がもうすぐ結婚するからお金がたくさんいるんだよ。だから今どこにも旅行は行けないよ」
to get married「結婚する」
to need a lot of money for ...「…のためにたくさんお金がいる」
