建物の「階」は英語では"floor"といいます。ですから、「1階」は"first floor"となります。 2."second floor"、3."third floor"、4."fourth floor"、5."fifth floor"、6."sixth floor"...10."tenth floor"です。 例文: "I live on the first floor." 「一階に住んでいます。」 しかし、ある建物何階あるかを説明するときは上記の加増得方は使えません。 "This building has eight floors." 「この建物は8回建てです。」 参考になれば幸いです。

In Britain the floor of a building that is at street level is always the "ground floor". If you say first floor it refers to the next level up, so can be confusing because in other countries the first floor refers to the ground floor! You could also call the ground floor "floor zero" or "street level" but these are used less commonly.

In buildings there is the ground level, accessible from the ground, outside of the building. Then they have floors or levels. For example: This apartment complex has five floors/levels, I stay on the second floor/level.

It is perfectly acceptable to use the term first or ground followed by floor or level depending on the situation. Usually, if there are businesses or apartments that are accessible immediately when you enter the building from the outside, it will be called the ground level or ground floor whereas the ones above are the first floor and so on. As an example, a building may have businesses on the ground floor. In this case, the apartments above would be starting on the first floor.

In the USA, it is most common to hear "first floor" occasionally you might hear "ground floor", but that tends to be a British expression. Examples: My office is on the first floor of the building. Are you on the first or second floor? The HR department is located on the ground floor of the office building. If you are looking for the visitors counter it is on the ground floor.

Ground floor or ground level floor refers to the floor that is level with the ground. The floor beneath the ground level is called the basement or lower level and the floors above the ground floor are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Parking bays can normally be found on the basement or lower level. Example: Please park in the basement, sign in at the security desk on the ground floor and proceed to the first floor which is where you will find my office.

Normally if you are living on the ground level, you will call it the "ground floor". However, some people would also call it the "first floor". Depending on the country you are in, different people may cal it either one of these. You can say something like "I live on the ground floor of my apartment".

You could use any of the above three phrases when trying to explain what the floor level of the ground is. - Ground floor/level; very first floor, may actually be where the parking area is.

From my own experience, this does depend on what country you're in. For example, in the US we would consider the floor that is level to the ground, "the ground floor," whereas in some European countries like France, the ground floor would be considered the, "first floor."
