「3位になれたのか、3位にしかなれなかったのか。って英語でなんて言うの？

数日前のYahooニュースの見出しです。
なれた感と、しかなれなかった感を英語で教えて下さい。

Accepted Answer

「３位になれた」は I finished in third place. のように言えます。
例：
I finished in third place.  I was happy with that.
「３位になれて嬉しかった。」

逆に「３位にしかなれなかった」は下のように言うと良いと思います。
I wasn't able to do any better than third place.
「３位にしかなれなかった。・たかが３位だった。」

例：
Are you saying you finished in third place or that you weren't able to do any better than third place.  Let's think about things again.
「３位になれたと言っているのですか？それともたかが３位だったと言っているのですか？もう一度考えてみましょう。」
