１）The food in the freezer has almost thawed out.
「冷凍庫の食品がもう少しで解けるところだった。」
＊これは食品が完全には解けてないけど、柔らかくなってきている状態です。
２）The food in the freezer has started to thaw out.
「冷凍庫の食品が解け始めていた。」
＊これは解け始めてはいるが、まだ結構凍っている状態で、例文１に比べるともっと凍っています。
例：
The fridge has stopped working and all the food in the freezer has started to thaw out.
I had it fixed/repaired so the food didn't thaw out all the way.
「冷蔵庫が壊れたので冷凍食品が解け始めていた。修理してもらったので、完全に解けなかった。」

冷凍食品は複数形で frozen foods と言います。
一つだけであれば最後の s は不要です。
もう少しで、ギリギリと言う表現をしたい場合は
just about を使うと良いです。
溶けるは to melt と言います。
「冷蔵庫が故障して冷凍食品がもう少しで溶けるところだった」
"The refrigerator broke down and the frozen foods were just about to melt"
