You dropped something. Is this yours? Does this belong to you?

(1) I think you dropped something. (2)Is that yours?「それ(あれ)はあなたのものですか?」 (3) Is this yours? そして You dropped something.

Explanation: If you see someone drop something, you know it is theirs, so you just need to hand it back to them. Sentence 2 seems the most appropriate. Example sentence: A. "I believe you dropped your purse." B. " Why, thank you so much!"
A. "I believe you dropped your purse." (お財布を落としましたよ) B. " Why, thank you so much!"

When someone drops something, and you witness it, the polite thing to do is to inform that person. You can simply call out to them by saying "Excuse me" or "Hey", and then kindly tell them that you believe they dropped something. I’m sure the person will be very appreciative of your help.

  • I think you dropped this?

Even though you may have seen the person drop the item, it is entirely acceptable and common to say that you 'think' you saw the person drop it. We use 'think' even when we are completely certain about something, as well as when we have doubts. For example: "I think I love her" "I think I will go" "I think its over" To show that you are ending the sentence with a question, in this instance, 'this?'. You should make you voice go up in tone at the end of the sentence. Intonation at the end of a sentence that goes up in tone, shows that you are asking a question.
【例】 "I think I love her" (私は彼女の事が好きだと思います) "I think I will go" (私は行くと思います) "I think its over" (終わりだと思います) 表現を質問とする為には文末にこの場合、 'this?'

You dropped this. Is this yours? 例えば Is this yours? や Did you drop this?(これ、落としましたか?) You dropped something(何か落としましたよ)でも大丈夫です。 私でしたら多分、Is this yours?

Excuse me, I think you dropped this. I dropped my phone and the screen cracked.

You dropped something. I think you may have dropped this. Is this/that yours?

The first example would be ideal to use if you find something on the floor that someone has dropped but you don't know for sure who dropped it, However if you seen who dropped it then to give it them back you could just simply say "You dropped this" whilst handing them the object back.

It is always polite to say 'Excuse me' when calling after someone. Especially if you do not know their name. If it is a man you can say "Excuse me sir' and if it is a woman you can say 'Excuse me miss'. If something has fallen to the ground, it has dropped. If someone drops something and you pick it up you can say 'Is THIS yours?' as you are holding the item. If it is on the ground/chair etc, you can say 'Is THAT yours?' and point to the item. Is it yours? - Does it belong to you?
Is it yours?

Use the expressions above if you would like to ask someone if they dropped something. If the person is nearby, it is easy to gently tap them on the shoulder or walk up to them and ask them if they dropped something, it could be money or any other pesonal item like jewellery or a bank card. It is great to be helpful in this way! Item: any object you can see and touch

You dropped something. Is this yours?
