直訳すればこのフレーズはだいたい「If it's the general outline of that book, I remember it, but I've forgotten the details.」となりますが、ちょっと長くて不自然です。

なので、「I remember the gist of that book, but I've forgotten the details.」を言いましょう。

「gist」は最近よく使われるフレーズなのでちょうどいいと思います。
