日本語の「さっきの〇〇」と言う英語での口語の端的な言い方は「the 〇〇 from before」になりますね。

appeared in the bookもOKですが、子供と話すならちょっと上級かなと思いました。we saw this animal in the book from before too (さっきの本にも同じ動物見たんですね）のような言い方もOKですね。
「~ね」は「~, wasn't it?」にしましたが、子供に特に答えて欲しくなければ暖かくフレンドリーな感じで言っても良いですね。
