話が進んじゃったからって英語でなんて言うの？

ネイティブの人と話しているとき。
一番最初に言いたかったけど、話が進んじゃったから言えなかった！って言いたいのですが、
I want to say that in the first place, but I couldn't  because the topic went on fastly.

自分で考えた英文ですがどうでしょうか、アドバイスお願いします。

おっしゃった英語の文章はほとんど当ていました。

「話が進んじゃったから」は英語で「because the conversation went on」と言います。「went on」の代わりに「sped on by」や「was way too fast」も言うことが出来ます。

I wanted to say that in the beginning, but I couldn't because the conversation sped on by.

あとは「話」＝「topic」ではなく「conversation」の方が自然です。
