「溢れる」は「to spill」です。

家に着いたら、容器から溢れていました。
カレーが溢れたのは家に着いた前なので、「had + 過去分詞」の過去完了形を使います。
さらに、お店の人に言っているのは家に着いた後ですので、「got home」です。
順番としては以下の通りですね。
カレーが溢れた → 家に着いた → 現在（お店の人に言っている）
