「バゲットを縦に切る」
lengthwise で「縦に・長く」

ーto cut a baguette from one end to the other (instead of cutting it in slices)
「バゲットを(スライスする代わりに)片端から反対側の端に切る」

例：
I cut a baguette in half lengthwise and put some toppings on it, then I made two open sandwiches called Tartines.
