- There's less books than before
- There aren't as many books as before
- The amount of books decreased
ここの本屋新しくリニューアルオープンして、前より本減ったな…前の方が良かった。
- This bookstore just reopened and there's less books now...it was better before.
この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。
ーThere aren't as many books here as before.
「ここには以前と同じ数の本がない」＝「前より本が減ったな」
ーThere are fewer books here since they remodelled.
「改装して以来、本の数が少なくなった」＝「前より本が減ったな」

feels like を入れると、断定しすぎずやわらかい言い方になります。
as they used to が「前はもっとあったのに」の定番です。
ちょっと直球で言う（数が減った）
・They have fewer books than before.
「前より本が少ないね。」
