まずは日本語でratとmouseの違いが曖昧ですので、一応両方を提案したいと思いました。普通にratは可愛くない動物だと皆が思っていますが、mouseが好きな人はなかなか居ますね。
「かもしれない」はprobablyに訳しています、が直接言うよりニュアンスで伝わっていますので、上記の文章から抜けても大丈夫だと思います。
例:I thought I wouldn't like hamsters because they're like rats.
