  • I thought it was going to rain, but it didn't.

It's going to rain. I thought it was going to rain, but it didn't.

1)I thought it was going to rain but it didn't. 2)I thought we would have rain but I was wrong. 例えば、「今日は雨が降る」は It will rain todayのほかに、Have を使って We will have rain todayとなります。 3)It didn't rain like I thought it would. I hope it helps :)

It looked like rain but it didn't. 文中"...but it didn't."

  • It did not rain though I had thought it would.

【be likely to V】で「~しそう」と言う意味です。 【I thought S would V】で「SがVするだろうと思った」、や【It didn't rain】を先に言ってその後に【though S V】で「SがVだけど」と続ける事も出来ます。

  • Rain was threatening, but it held off

  • The thunderous clouds passed without one rain drop falling

If rain is threatening, it means there are clouds in the sky and perhaps it feels humid, as if it could rain at any moment. Thunderous clouds are heavy, dark grey clouds, probably quite low, swirling. The atmosphere will feel damp. There may also be lightning and thunder. Why isn't it raining? How strange!
The thunderous clouds passed without one rain drop falling

  • It was so cloudy I thought it would rain...I was wrong!

It takes a big man to admit he was wrong;-D and in this case it's the smart play! We can all be so sure about something...we just know will happen... & then it doesn't! It was so cloudy I thought it would rain...I was wrong!
It was so cloudy I thought it would rain...I was wrong!

おっしゃられている内容は以下のようにも表現できると思いました(*^_^*) I thought it would start raining, but it didn't.
