この場合、次のような言い方が良いと思います。
ーThere was no point going on a walk since I stopped for an ice cream part way through my walk.
「ウォーキングの途中でアイスクリームを食べたので、ウォーキングに行った意味がなかった」
There was no point ~ing. で「〜する意味がなかった」と表現できます。

ーI had an ice cream when I went out for a walk this evening which defeated the purpose of my walk.
「夜、ウォーキングに行った時にアイスクリームを食べたので、ウォーキングが台無しになった」
to defeat the purpose of ... で「…が台無しになる・…の目的にそぐわない」＝「〜の意味がない」とも言えますよ。
