レジで並ぼうとしたら、ちょうど一緒に並ぼうとした人がいて、その人が順番を譲ってくれました。

「順番を譲る」ことは次のように言うと良いですよ。
ーto let someone go first
ーto let someone go ahead of you

例：
I got in line at the same time as someone else at the check-out, but the guy beside me let me go ahead of him.
「レジで同時に並ぼうとした人が順番を譲ってくれた」
to get in line で「列に並ぶ」
