  • I've never heard about that.

・That's news to me.

A: A new Italian restaurant is going to open here.
B: That's news to me.

I've never heard about that.

A: Let's go to the ABC museum tomorrow.
B: What's that? I've never heard about it.

  • It's my first time hearing it.

  • Really? I've never heard of that.

    play icon

It's my first time hearing it.

heard of the news, heard of you のように使います。

If someone tells you something that you have never heard before, you can say:
"Really? I didn't know that."
"Really? This is news to me."
"This is the first time I'm hearing this. I'm glad you told me."
"Really? I didn't know that."
"Really? This is news to me."
"This is the first time I'm hearing this. I'm glad you told me."

This is an idiom that we use to express surprise or wonder at new information. For example:
A: Did you know that cows have four stomachs?
B: I did not! You learn something new every day!

Have a great day!

A: Did you know that cows have four stomachs?
B: I did not! You learn something new every day!

By saying this is the 'first' you have heard of it, explains that this is new information to you. The same goes for saying you have 'never' heard of that before.

All of the above expressions can be said with an inflection of surprise and interest, to properly convey that you are receiving new information.

When someone is telling you some information that you haven't heard before, then you can say one of these two sentences.

For example.
Have you heard about Dave?
No, what what about him?
Well, from what I have heard...
Wow, that is new to me.

I hope this helps.
Have a great day.

Use the sentences above to express that you are hearing a piece of information for the first time.
When we learn new information about something from someone we can let them know we had no idea by using any of the sentences below.

"I had no idea."
"I learned of this for the first time today."
"Wow, really? I would never have known!"
"I really did not know that!"
"I had no idea that Peter and Jane are married."
