The words "my ambition" are often linked to jobs and promotions, however, the word ambition simply means a strong desire you have to achieve or do something. e.g My ambition is to run 1km.

"set one's sights on" is a common phrase that is often used to explain that a person has an ambition or goal they want to achieve.

-To shoot for something is similar to to aim for something, but is less likely to be achieved than aiming.
-To have one's sights on something is to have a goal that you really pursue, not like a goal more similar to a dream.
-It's xxx or bust is something travelers might say when they are determined to arrive at a specific destination (It's Dodge City or bust). I saw this expression on signs on wagons in the cartoons when I was a kid. If you use this expression, you will sound knowledgeable of American slang, and you might get some laughs too :).
