従来のって英語でなんて言うの？

たばこを例にご説明しますね。
ニュースなどで「電子たばこ」が取り上げられることがありますね。
「電子たばこ」と「そうでないたばこ」を比較する際は、「そうでないたばこ」のことを「従来のたばこ」といいます。
英語では、「電子たばこ」は electronic cigarette または e-cigarette、
「従来のたばこ」は conventional cigarette または traditional cigarette といいます。

E-cigarettes are perceived to be less harmful than conventional cigarettes, and they are thought to be useful aids to quitting.
電子たばこは従来のたばこよりも害が少ないとされ、禁煙に有効と考えられている。

今まであった普通のものを指すときに使う、「従来の」は英語で「usual」や「conventional」で表現できます。

例文：
「従来の使った技術だけで足りない」
→「The usual techniques we have used is not enough」
→「The conventional techniques we have used is not enough」

「従来の考え方のままで前に進めない」
→「You can’t go forward with just the usual way of thinking」
→「You can’t go forward with just the conventional way of thinking」

以前のご質問への回答となり恐縮ですが
少しでも参考として頂けますと幸いです。

他にも、normal でも十分伝わります。
normal は簡単に言うと「 こういうものだと
すぐに予想がつく 」というニュアンスです。

例えば、

　ex. It's normal to feel angry when you are treated like that.
　　　そんな扱いを受けたのなら、怒って当然だ
　（例えば就職した会社で、初日に深夜0時まで無理やり勤務させれた状況）

と言えます。怒りが容易に想像がつく、ということです。

またイギリスの英字新聞の見出しで、

＞More teens are trying e-cigarettes than normal tobacco ...

というものがありました。「普通の（normal）タバコより
電子タバコを試している」という文脈で、こちらも
先ほどの説明に照らし合わせますと、

　　normal tabacco

で、「普通の、みんながすぐに見当がつく、従来のタバコ」
という感じです。
