「思い通りにならない」というのを「hard to manage」で表現した上で、「There is nothing 比較級 than 〜（〜ほど…なものはない）」という構文と組み合わせてみました。
ちなみに、あっさり「Raising a child is a hardest thing in life.」としても良いかも知れません（笑）。

Nothing is more challenging to deal with than raising a child.
「子育てほど取り組むのに困難なものはない」
似たような意味で下記のような表現もできます。
far from～＝「～からほど遠い」
what I expected＝「私が思った（考えていた）こと」
Raising a child is far from what I expected.
「子育ては私が考えていたものとはほど遠い」
