Oh my goodness...I bought too much stuff!
I guess I shopped a little too much.
drink too much:飲みすぎる
eat too much:食べ過ぎる
I overdid it.
I went overboard.
I bought too much.

If you buy 'too many' things in a sale, what you say about this depends on what is your main concern. Are you worried that you spent too much money? If so, the first example is appropriate. If you think you physically purchased too many items that you don't need, then the second example may suit.
I spent more than I had planned because a lot of things were on sale
When you shop and spend more than you had expected to spend, you can say:
-I spent a little too much because everything was on sale.
-I spent more than I had planned because a lot of things were on sale.
-I went overboard with the shopping because everything was on sale.
-I spent a little too much because everything was on sale.
-I spent more than I had planned because a lot of things were on sale.
-I went overboard with the shopping because everything was on sale.
