  • I got banned from the bar.

    play icon

・be banned from 「be banned from 場所」現在形で言えば、過去に禁止されて(got banned)、今も禁止された状態にあるということです。 I'm banned from the bar.

To bar someone from somewhere: prevent or prohibit (someone) from doing something or from going somewhere. "Journalists had been barred from covering the elections." To ban someone from somewhere has a similar meaning to 'bar.' "Shall we go to the local pub this evening?" "I can't - I've been barred." "You mean they banned you from going in?" "Yes."
To bar someone from somewhere: "Journalists had been barred from covering the elections." To ban someone from somewhere barと同じような意味です。 "Shall we go to the local pub this evening?" "I can't - I've been barred." だめだ、禁止されちゃってて "You mean they banned you from going in?"

Banned - Banned means to officially or formally prevent someone from doing something or going somewhere. Barred - We also use the term 'barred', which comes from the the fact that a door can be 'barred' which means it can be physically closed with the use of a a bar of wood or metal which has been put across it so that it cannot be opened.

○○ is now off-limits to me.

  • He was forbidden to enter the club again...he got barred/banned for life!

If we "misbehave" in our favorite establishment , we could face the penalty...and be Barred/Banned. This is the most usual punishment for bad behaviour in a public place! There may be a time period attached to the ban....(3 weeks 3 months etc) Or indeed one could be excluded forever: "Banned/Barred for life!"
