What 〜 do you like? What is your favorite 〜？など、基本的な英語文ですが、animalの名詞を単数にすべきか複数にすべきか、いろいろ調べたのですが、納得する答えがでませんでした。動物以外にも、sport song sweet などなど、同じように毎回悩んでしまいます。
基本的に「[好き](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/135239/)な[動物](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/34388/)」つまり「特定の動物」について尋ねているので単数形で大丈夫です。sport、songなど一般的な名詞についても同様です。唯一"sweet"は、お菓子という意で用いる場合は"sweets"と表記するので別ですね。
また、そもそもニュアンスとして「好きな動物達」という具合に複数の答えを求めている場合は
"what are your favorite animals?"
と尋ねましょう。

To ask about someone's favourite animal you need to use any of these questions. They are absolutely the same, although, some people can think about the specific type of animals in the second question.
