物を指して会話に導入するなら、

二度と"that"も"tennis ball"も言わなくていいです。

続きまして、
"My father gave an old dictionary to me."
"My father gave me an old dictionary."
ほぼ一緒です。2番目はもうちょっとコンパクトで良いと思います
また、追加情報があるとき、言葉の並びが重要になります。
