There is a beautifully maintained park, with flower beds, fountains and carefully sculptured hedges. The public are strolling around the pathways, admiring the plants and enjoying the clear, summer weather. There is a groundsman working on a grassy island between the paths. He is pushing a small into the earth which reads: 'Keep to the paths.' He does not want anyone to walk on the grass.

A lawn is is a nicely maintained area of grass in the yard or in the park. Usually, there will be signs warning people not to walk on the grass to protect it from being trampled on. When grass gets trampled, it completely gets warn and the ground shows. In such a case, it has to be renewed or replanted. As an owner of such a facility, you will be compelled to put up a sign that says: Please do not walk on the lawn. or Please do not trample the lawn. or Keep away from the grass
Please do not walk on the lawn. Please do not trample the lawn. Keep away from the grass.

*Walking on the grass is prohibited.- If something is prohibited it means that it is not allowed. For example: Smoking in the parking lot is prohibited. *Keep off the grass.- This is a bit less serious. It is a reminder that people should not walk on the grass.
*Walking on the grass is prohibited. Smoking in the parking lot is prohibited. *Keep off the grass.

You can also post "No Trespassing" signs or "Private Property" signs. This will also alarm passerby's to steer clear of the grass or lawn.

"Don't step on the grass" has the same meaning as "don't walk on the grass". Adding "please", of course, makes the sign look more friendly. "Keep off the grass" is not as polite as "Please keep off the grass" but it is completely acceptable. Not all the signs we see are aimed at being friendly. They just serve at giving us a simple message.
"Don't step on the grass"(芝生に入らないでください)は "Don't walk on the grass"(芝生の上を歩かないでください)と同じ意味です。" "Keep off the grass"(芝生に入らないでください)は "Please keep off the grass" ほど丁寧ではありません。

  • The grass is prohibited from walking on

The word 'prohibited' means that something is not allowed. In this case, the grass is not allowed to be walked on so you could use 'The grass is prohibited from walking on' 'Lawn' is generally used for gardens but can also just mean the grass at the park or area of grass. If someone doesn't want you to walk on their garden, they might ask you to stay off their lawn.
The grass is prohibited from walking on'(芝生には入らないでください)と言えます。

These are the three sentences that you would typically see when at a park or public nature space and they wanted you to stay off the grass. The signs are incomplete sentences because they just put the key words to fit onto the sign.

Not allowed on the grass.(芝生に入るな) Off the grass.(芝生に入るな) Please, do not step on the grass.(芝生に入らないでください) どう言うかは看板の大きさによります。
