The word 'carton' doesn't mean the container is made of paper; but it is the most common word for drink products such as milk, juice and other drinks that come in containers that are not made of glass or bottle shaped. Soda in a plastic container that is shaped like a bottle would still be called a 'bottle of soda' rather than a 'carton of soda'. Carton of milk is most common when speaking of milk products in a container. A carton of juice is also most common.

Cartons' is the usual word for describing a very wide variety of packaging.
