IVF' is the medical term used. It basically means that you are having medical treatment to maybe help have a baby. Generally speaking it is quite sensitive information & you wouldn't say it to everyone. As in "We went through IVF to help us have a baby".

However most people dont use the official term the will use in-vitro which is a type of fertility treatment or they will wasy IVF which is the acroynm for in-vitro. they will say this wheather they are specifically getting in-vitro or not and this is generally acceptable language to use and your average american will understand if you choose to use IVF or in-vitro instead of using the term fertility treatment
