1. I am a picky eater.
If you are a picky eater it means that you are very careful about what you eat. It means that you are
very selective about what you eat.

2. I am very particular about what I eat.
This means the same thing as the sentence above.
1. I am a picky eater.

2. I am very particular about what I eat.

Usually young children around the age of 2 years are 'fussy eaters.' They will refuse food one day and happily eat the same food another day.
'A picky eater' is very choosy about what he/she eats, and may also refuse to eat foods that are new to them.
A 'selective eater' selects what foods they want to eat based on food characteristics such as color, taste, smell, shape, size, etc.

'A picky eater'

A 'selective eater'

Perhaps you do not like the texture, flavor, smell, etc. of some foods, you can just explain that you are picky about the foods you eat.
You could say,
"I am picky about what foods I eat."
"There are certain foods I will not eat."

Or there may be foods you are allergic to or for health reasons you cannot eat them. You could say,
"I cannot eat certain foods because of my health."
"I cannot eat _____________ because of my health."

"I am picky about what foods I eat."

"There are certain foods I will not eat."

"I cannot eat certain foods because of my health."

"I cannot eat _____________ because of my health."

In English, someone who is particular about the type of foods they eat and does not like to try many different foods is called a 'fussy eater'. You can tell someone that you don't like very many foods by saying 'I am a fussy eater'. You can also try some of the sentences above to express the same thing

Hope this helps

If you would like to explain to someone that you are a very picky eater, you can say something along the lines of "I am a very picky eater." or "I am a very fussy eater and am very particular with what I eat.". These are some good ways to explain to someone that you are very particular about the things you eat.

  • I'm very finicky about what I put into my mouth.

    play icon

  • I'm a fussy eater.

    play icon

1. I'm very finicky about what I put into my mouth.
To be "finicky" also means that you are picky and very
over-particular about food. The phrase, what I put into my
mouth" essentially means what you eat and drink. Finicky
eaters, because they are so hard to please, can be a nightmare
for any host who invites them over for a meal.

2. I'm a fussy eater.
To be fussy means that you are very difficult or hard
to please. Fussy eaters prefer choosing their own food and
have a wide selection of foods that they would not eat.

If someone is a picky eater, it means that they are very particular about what they want to eat, they want it to be exactly how they want else they won't eat it.
Picky eaters are hard to impress sometimes as they have difficult standards.
They may want their food cooked in a particular way, they may want specific flavors or they may want their food set up in a particular way.

"I would like you to remove all the tomato from my pizza please."
"I don't like the bread crust, please remove it."

"She is a picky eater, she is hard to impress because she wants things in a very specific way."

"I admit, I am a picky eater, I want my meals to be exactly the way I would like."

When you cant have certain foods due to diet or simply just not liking it because you dont like certain types of food, you can come across as 'picky' This is normally seen as a negative word but will be ok if you medically cant eat something.

Being particular means that you only want/need certain things. This could be due to diet and you want to have a good body or you may be allergic to certain foods.

'I am allergic to shellfish, so I dont want to go to the seafood restaurant.'
