A shadow is something that an object makes when it is in the light. For example, if a light is coming from the right, there is a shadow to the left of the object. All objects make shadows in the light.
A "shadow" is what is created when the sun is blocked out by someone or something. Whereas, "shade" is a dark area that is created when a shape blocks out the sun and is used as shelter from the sun and heat.
Shade' is more used to describe when the sun is not hitting an area and it is darker than if the sun was out
A 'shadow' is when you have a persons figure that is shown in the shade like a silohette and the sun is blocked out by it
The shadow of something is the dark shape that is made where the light cannot pass through it. You see your own shadow on the ground when you stand in front of the sun, for instance.
Shade is that darker patch. So the area of shadow on the ground thrown there by the house would be called it's shade, and could be used as shelter from the sun on hot days.
'I have bought a garden umbrella to create some summer shade for us to sit in'
'Look how long our shadows are!'
'My shadow disappears when I walk into the shade of the garage'
'I have bought a garden umbrella to create some summer shade for us to sit in'
'Look how long our shadows are!'
'My shadow disappears when I walk into the shade of the garage'
There are long shadows at dusk (the time when the sunsets).
The word for "kage" in English is a shadow. A shadow is the dark reflection of an object when standing in front of a light. For example, when standing in front of a lamp, a shadow is produced. An example of a sentence using the word shadow is: "The shadows in my room scare me at night."
"The shadows in my room scare me at night."
The dark area caused by an object standing in front of a light source is known as the 'silhouette'.
"John's silhouette" was outlined against the setting sun."
"John's silhouette" was outlined against the setting sun."
Cast a shadow.
Hide in the shadows.
Dark shadow.
The dog chased his own shadow.
He hid in the shadow of a tall tree.
The most usual word to describe the dark shape produced when a body is between the sun and the ground is "shadow". For example, "The sun was high in the sky and his body cast a dark shadow on the ground." A more unusual word is "silhouette". For example, "her shape was silhouetted against the backdrop". A rarely used word of Latin derivation is "umbra". For example, "the moon's umbra was apparent during the solar eclipse".
The sun was high in the sky and his body cast a dark shadow on the ground.
「silhouette(シルエット)」はそれほど一般的ではありません。
Her shape was silhouetted against the backdrop.
The moon's umbra was apparent during the solar eclipse.
例えば、「A shadow from the tree.」 「Shadows from the buildings」も言っても良いです。
「地面に映る影」は英語で「cast a shadow on the ground」といいます。
→「I ran away as soon as I saw his shadow」
→「Shadows aren’t something you can touch」
