2) "May I ask where you work at?"
- This is a formal way of asking personal work information from someone. You may also ask, "Do you think I could get a job at your workplace?"

In English we tend to use the words 'job' and 'work' interchangeably. It is important to remember that you can "work at a job" but you can't "job at a work".... This is because a job is a type of employment and work is something you 'do' at a job....
If you are asking where somebody is working it is ok to be direct - "where are you work?" or "where do you work?" or "Did you find a good employer?"
You can also ask if they have any advice or can suggest a place to 'apply for a job' or a place to 'work'...
