A zoo is a place that we keep animals so that people can see and interact with animals that they would not normally be able to in their every day lives. They are located usually in very urban areas such as cities so that people, especially children can see unusual and different animals from all parts of the world.
Well, the traditional place that people go to see animals and creatures from far flung places would be a zoo. 'Zoo' is a shortened version of 'zoological garden' which is a place where animals are collected so that they may be viewed by the public.
On a different scale, an area may be allocated as a sanctuary or reserve for animals. Such animals may be protected species such as elephants and lions and the public may view the creatures by 'going on safari' in such locations as Africa or India.
In Queensland, Australia we have Australia Zoo. This is a place that looks after a variety of animals, not only to show the public but with the aim to raise awareness of the plight of some animals.
Zoo is the shortened version of Zoological Garden.
Another place that we have is a Wildlife Sanctuary, these types of places mostly help with the rehabilitation of injured wildlife. For instance we often have kangaroos that have been hit by cars or injured birds. These animals are rehabilitated and released back into the wild. Some wildlife sanctuaries also work with the public to raise awareness to protect these animals.
"Zoo" is a place that keeps many different types of animals in cages so you can go and see them, They are often found in cities or towns.
"Wildlife parks" are similar to a zoo but they tend to be much bigger and give the animals more space and more of a natural habitat to live in.
