「一日の終わり」は英語で「the end of the day」です。
一日の終わりに日記をつける、というのであれば
To write in a diary at the end of the day
To keep a diary at the end of the day
日記に「一日の終わりを告げる（記す）」としたいのであれば、
To mark the end of the day
となります。
“call it a day” は、その日の仕事をおわりにする、という意味です。
例えば、このように使えます:
It's late. Let's call it a day.
(もう遅いね、今日はここら辺で終わりましょう)。
Why don't we call it a day ? I’m so tired. Good night.
(今日はもう終わりにしましょうか？とても疲れたよ。おやすみ)
