Saturday and Sunday collecctively are known as 'weekend' however an article, 'A' or 'The' or a determiner such as 'any' or 'this' is required - unless'weekend' is being used as an adjective rather than a noun.
EX. "Weekend shopping is very stressful!" (adjective)
EX. "I'm free this weekend so why don't we take a drive in the country?" (noun)

The word weekend is the best term to use for Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes when people have either Friday or Monday off from work they will call it a "Long weekend" because it is 3 days rather than 2.
