(1) Do you want me to hold the camera horizontally or vertically?
'hold' = 「持つ」
'horizontally' = 「横に」
'vertically' = 「縦に」

(2) Do you want a vertical or horizontal shot?
'vertical shot' = 「縦の写真」
horizontal shot' = 「横の写真」

When talking about a painting, picture or phorograph then with referring to the way it is taken or drawn we say 'portrait' or 'landscape'
porrait is the same as vertical it's taller than across
landscape is the same as horizontal it's longer going across than tall

Do you want?: This asks them to share what they desire or what their preference is.
It taken: This is a shortened way of saying it (or the picture) being captured.
A picture that has been taken vertically, is vertical, or is in portrait mode is taller than it is wide.
A picture that has been taken horizontally, is horizontal, or is in landscape mode is wider than it is tall.
Do you prefer?: This asks them which they like better
Do you want?:

It taken: これは "it (あるいは the picture) being captured" を短くした言い方です。

Do you prefer?:

Which way would you like me to hold the camera?
I can take it the other way if you want.
How would you like me to hold the camera? Horizontally or vertically.

Honestly, many people get "horizontally" and "vertically" confused. An easy way to ask the question is to say, "Would you like me to take the picture this way (demonstrate horizontally) or this way? (demonstrate vertically).

Do you want it longways or shortways?
I can take the picture longways or shortways. Which do you prefer?
Which way would you like me to hold the camera?

I can take it the other way if you want.

How would you like me to hold the camera? Horizontally or vertically.

"Would you like me to take the picture this way (横にして) or this way?

Do you want it longways or shortways?

I can take the picture longways or shortways. Which do you prefer?

  • Which format would you like me to take the photo? Portrait or landscape?

    play icon

This question is usually used when taking a photo or a video for someone. Selfies are most often taken in portrait (vertically) and group shots are usually taken in landscape (horizontally).

The portrait gives the head and shoulders mainly and the landscape mode is also very good for catching the things that are going on around a person whos picture is being taken.

Asking "should..." at the beginning of the sentence also shows that this is informal English used mainly in London. One would not start a sentence like this in a formal environment.
セルフィーはたいてい "portrait/vertically"(縦方向)に、団体写真は普通 "landscape/horizontally"(横方向)に撮ります。

文頭の "should..."

We can take pictures using different angles for specific effects.
We can ask the person we are capturing how they prefer their picture taken.

Capture: to take hold of or catch.
In terms of photography, capture would then mean to 'catch' a picture and store it someplace, be it the camera itself or printed as a hardcopy photo.

Hardcopy: a printed copy of something, a book or photo, that you can hold in your hands.

Printed: something that has been produced by a machine, it can be letters, numbers or images.

Capture: ~

  • Would you like me to take this picture portrait or landscape?

*Would you like it portrait or landscape?

*Would you like me to take this picture portrait or landscape?

*Portrait means vertical
*Landscape means horizontal.

Portrait and landscape are traditionally used when talking about art, photography and painting. Although if you asked 'vertically or horizontally' then someone would definitely understand you well enough.

You could also say...
*Would you like the background in the photo? (landscape)
* Do you want me to take a selfie? Meaning = do you want me and you in the photo together

I hope this helps! ^ ^
*Would you like it portrait or landscape?(縦がいいですか横がいいですか)

*Would you like me to take this picture portrait or landscape?(この写真は縦に撮りますかそれとも横に撮りますか)

*"Portrait"
*"Landscape"

*Would you like the background in the photo?(後ろの景色は入れますか)
*Do you want me to take a selfie?(あなたと私で一緒に写真を撮りませんか)

"Should I take the photo Landscape or portrait?"
This is used to ask which way around they would like the photo,
Landscape refers to the camera being horizontal.
portrait refers to the camera being vertical.
"Should I take the photo Landscape or portrait?"(カメラは横で撮りますかそれとも縦で撮りますか)

'Landscape'
'Portrait'
