「悲しい性（さが）」は名詞だと思いますが、なかなかピッタリの英語
が思いつきませんでした。
「残念ながら、あいにく」という意味の「unfortunately（＝副詞）」を使うと
何となく近づくかもしれません。
【例】
We lost some players that I hate to see go, but unfortunately that's the nature of this business.
