ヒントくださいって英語でなんて言うの？

The vocabulary "hint" and "clue" can both be used to talk about getting a small piece of important information they don't know to solve a problem or riddle.

During an online lesson, if you wish to ask your teacher how to say something by way of the teacher giving a hint or a clue, then you may use the above well known phrase. In the UK, the catchphrase is 'give us a clue' not 'give me a clue' - even when there is only one of you!

When a student is in class going through a particular lesson, it is obvious that there are often times certain aspects of the lesson that he/she will not understand. The teacher sometimes does notice the student's inability to deal with some questions and immediately gives the student hints. However, there are times when a student encounters a difficulty and has to ask the teacher to give him/her a hint regarding the answer. The request for a hint should be as polite as possible and should start or end with the adverb 'please'. So, you may request the teacher as follows: Give me a hint please. or Please give me a hint.

ヒント = hint ください = please "Hint, please" is a direct translation, but is not a natural way to ask for a hint in English. "Can you give me a hint?" or "can you give me a hint, please?" is a very natural way to say it.

When you are in your online English lesson and the teacher is asking you a question in the class and you do not know the answer you could say to the teacher; "Teacher can you please give me a hint?".
