「レジ」は cash register です。
例:

Most people call a person who operates behind a register; Cashier. Cashier is mainly called for people who work in supermarkets where there is food and other home products to buy. In a clothing store or an electronic store, the person is called a saleswoman or salesman.
Checkout person is also used but not extensively.
