(1) Okonomiyaki
'Okonomiyaki is a Japanese style savory pancake made of flour, yam, egg, cabbage and other ingredients such as prawn, pork, squid and mochi, depending on where it's made' のように材料を言ってみると想像しやすくなるかもしれません。
okonomiyaki = Japanese savoury pancake
In English, we don't always change the names of foreign dishes into English. Dishes, such as sushi and sashimi are now well known in English, and they don't need to be explained. Okonomiyaki is not popular overseas, so using the Japanese name and explaining what the dish is will help people to become familiar with it.
ex. "Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake made from flour, eggs, cabbage and different ingredients of your choice. You can add things such as pork, shrimp, cheese, kimchi, seafood, mochi or whatever you want. It is topped with bonito flakes, seaweed flakes, mayo and a special okonomiyaki sauce."
Japanese savoury pancake
"Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake made from flour, eggs, cabbage and different ingredients of your choice. You can add things such as pork, shrimp, cheese, kimchi, seafood, mochi or whatever you want. It is topped with bonito flakes, seaweed flakes, mayo and a special okonomiyaki sauce."

Alot of terms for food in Japanese people would understand what they are so you could simply say 'Okonomiyaki' and generally most peoole would understand although to explain better you could call it a 'savoury pancake' which usually consists of eggs mixed with flour and other ingredients and then cooked
Okonomiyaki means grilled/cooked as you like it the same with a pancake you can add into it what you like
Normally when explaining a foreign dish, you refer to something that you are already familiar with. Everyone knows what a pancake is, and the same goes for an omelette, it is something very common. They are both egg based, flat and fried so they can both be used to refer to "Okonomiyaki". So when you call it a Japanese style pancake/omelette a Native speaker will understand that it is not a regular pancake or omelette, but rather something that can be very different from what is known as a regular pancake or omelette.
A variety of ingredients may be added to egg and flour mix to make a tasty, savoury dish.
In the UK, pancakes are very thin. If the egg mix is very thick, it would be better described as an omelette.
It's an egg and flour creation that's made on a grill/griddle/flattop.
It's a lot like an omelette with various ingredients.
In the US, pancakes are a breakfast food made from flour and eggs. They are fluffy. Omelettes are breakfast foods made with eggs and various ingredients. The ingredients are then folded into the eggs. This, to me, looks like a combination of a pancake and an omelette.
When explaining a nations dish to a foreigner, you will start with the country of origin... for example... 'Japanese' Omelette - or... e.g. Polish Vodka...
The second part draws a similarity to a common or known food item.. in Europe and many nations an Omelette or Pancake is commonly known and understood.
You could also explain the ingredients as in the third example which explains the difference in ingredients... for example the cabbage is not commonly used in traditional English Pancakes...
Japanese Omelette(日本のオムレツ)
Polish Vodka(ポーランドのウォッカ)
If you would like to know the English word for "okonomiyaki", it is also called okonomiyaki in English or can also be called a "Japanese savoury omelette/pancake.". This food does not have an official English name and is normally just referred to as a Japanese sauvory pancake/omelette.
The term okonomiyaki is literally translated as "grilled as you like it." It is described as a pancake filled with just a few ingredients, such as cabbage, pork, squid, cheese, vegetables, and noodles. Aside from the ingredients, this type of pastry would be similar to an American omelet or casserole.
